The building of the Gothic monastery church of Carmelites was founded in 1347 by Charles IV. It is the highest church building in Prague (40 m). In 1606 the church was given to the Franciscan order and was renovated in the Renaissance style. In 1611 during a raid of Passau troops the church was devastated. It was renovated in the early baroque style after the year 1649. Its main baroque altar is the biggest one in Prague. Next to the church there are situated baroque buildings of the monastery from the 17th century and the Franciscan garden, which is opened for public.
